Bread Recipes

Here is the recipe that only requires one rise.

No Fail Yeast Bread

5 cups warm water
1/4 cup oil
1 1/2 tablespoon salt
1 cup honey or 3/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoon yeast
3 tablespoon dough enhancer, (optional) (I used bottled lemon juice)
11 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (I used only Whole Wheat, no white)

This recipe is easiest if a large mixer is used. If a mixer is unavailable, dough may be kneaded by hand. Combine water, oil, salt, sugar (or honey) and dough enhancer. Add yeast, mix. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough. I am not sure exactly how much flour I used, after a few cups I just started to slowly pour it in directly from the bag. My KitchenAid was not quite big enough, so I dumped out the dough and kneaded in by hand just enough to make it workable. Knead for 8 - 10 minutes (I only did for a couple minutes.) Divide into 4 parts. Shape each part into a loaf and place into greased loaf pans. Cover and allow to rise until dough is 1 inch above pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake 30 min. Makes 4 loaves.


Here is the recipe that I normally use. I have tried out several recipes and this has been my favorite. After making it a couple of times, making sure I liked it, I have had fun adding other healthy stuff. I don't really measure just eye-ball ground flax seed, rolled oats (not instant), FiberSure (kind of like Metamucil but when mixed in just disappears). The sky's the limit!

Whole Wheat Bread
2 packets of yeast
2 cups of warm water
1/2 cup of sugar
1 TB salt
2 beaten eggs
1/4 cup of oil
6 or so cups of flour

1. Dissolve yeast in water. Then add the sugar, salt, eggs, oil, and half the flour.
2. Beat that til it is smooth.
3. Add in the rest of the flour as the mixer is going until it is the right consistency.
4. let it knead for a couple minutes.
5. Let it rise for an hour.
6. punch it down and then shape it into two loaves (if you kinda roll it in a tube it turns out pretty) and put them in prepared loaf pans.
7. Let it rise for another hour.
8. Bake it at 375 for half an hour, or maybe a little less.

Go forth and bake! Making your own bread really is not that much work, once it becomes habit. We use it for everything just like store bought bread.

P.S. Make sure you take a stick of butter and rub it all over the tops of the loaves right out of the oven!
